A 10-year-old metal detectorist attending his first event in Gloucestershire stumbled upon a rare 14th Century seal just inches beneath the ground, igniting hopes of uncovering even more historical treasures in the future.

In a stroke of luck, young Brodie, accompanied by the Gloucestershire Metal Detecting Club, discovered the ancient artifact, believed to be an ecclesiastical seal featuring the image of the lamb of God and the inscription “Roger of Tetbury.”

Gloucestershire and Avon Finds Liaison Officer Kurt Adams lauded the find, highlighting its remarkable quality and historical significance, suggesting its usage centuries ago to authenticate important documents.

Brodie’s swift success, merely minutes after stepping out of the car, astonished his family and fellow club members, sparking renewed enthusiasm for the hobby and a desire for more discoveries.

Thrilled by his find, Brodie expressed aspirations for even grander discoveries, dreaming of uncovering gold jewelry, Roman swords, or even remnants of ancient carriages in future outings with his father.

The discovery raises intriguing questions about the mysterious figure of Roger of Tetbury, inviting speculation and inquiries from the public to unravel the historical puzzle.
