A family with young children has escaped a caravan attached to a car being stolen in outback Queensland.
The man, woman and their three children aged between six and 12 were inside the caravan at a caravan park in Hughenden, in the state’s west, about 9pm on Monday when “when they heard their car start and the caravan began to move”, police said.
It’s believed the family took the opportunity to escape when the thief slowed or stopped while driving the car out of the caravan park.
They were taken to hospital to be checked over for injury by medical staff.
The car and caravan were dumped at a location undisclosed by police.
The thief is yet to be identified.
They are believed to have been able to drive the car off using keys that were stolen earlier in the afternoon, according to police.
