World Bank Group Executive Director Parameswaran Iyer is currently in Sri Lanka on an official mission aimed at reinforcing development partnerships and backing the country’s economic recovery and growth agenda.
Mr. Iyer, who represents Sri Lanka along with several other countries on the World Bank’s Executive Board, held talks with Secretary to the Treasury and Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma. He was joined by World Bank Country Director for Sri Lanka, Maldives and Nepal, David Sislen.
The discussions focused on key areas with strong potential to generate employment and drive economic expansion, such as infrastructure development, agribusiness, healthcare services, tourism, and higher-value manufacturing. Dr. Suriyapperuma underscored the importance of boosting investment inflows, ensuring broad-based growth, and deepening collaboration across priority sectors.
The visit also enabled both sides to assess the progress of ongoing World Bank-funded projects and consider ways to better align future assistance with Sri Lanka’s national development priorities.
