Why the World Chooses India for Life-Saving Surgeries and Affordable Medical Care

India is rapidly becoming the global hub for medical tourism, offering patients from around the world advanced treatments at a fraction of the cost compared to the West. From complex cancer surgeries to rare orthopedic procedures, Indian hospitals are now seen as beacons of hope for those who had lost options at home.

🌍 Bonnie’s Second Chance: From the US to India

Bonnie, a professor from the University of Michigan, had battled breast cancer for years. In the US, her doctors recommended chemotherapy before surgery, but her condition worsened. Running out of hope, she came to Delhi’s CK Birla Hospital, where Dr. Mandeep Singh and his team performed a life-saving surgery, removing a 2kg tumor and reconstructing her chest wall with advanced graft techniques. Today, Bonnie is cancer-free and thriving.

🇬🇧 Toby Walks Again After Years of Pain

For Toby James Burr, a 56-year-old from the UK, severe knee pain had robbed him of mobility. Facing long NHS wait times and high private healthcare costs, he travelled to Shalby Hospitals in Ahmedabad. Within four days of a Total Knee Replacement using the “Zero Technique”, he was walking again — pain-free and praising India’s world-class care.

🌍 Robert’s Recovery After Five Failed Surgeries

Robert, a 52-year-old from Congo, had undergone five failed shoulder surgeries in four different countries. With little hope left, he came to Shalby Sanar International Hospital in Gurugram. Surgeons performed a rare Meshplasty procedure, stabilising his shoulder and treating nerve damage. Within days, Robert began recovering and is expected to regain full function soon.

📈 India’s Booming Medical Tourism Sector

The industry was valued at $7.69 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $14.31 billion by 2029, growing at 14–15% annually.

India attracts 7.3 million international patients annually, offering treatments at 60–80% lower costs than the US or UK.

Patients come mainly from West Asia (22.7%), Africa (21.2%), and South Asia (19.8%).

India ranks 10th globally in the Medical Tourism Index (2020–21).

Thanks to skilled doctors, advanced technology, modern infrastructure, and affordable costs, India is no longer just a destination for cultural tourism — it has become a global lifeline for medical hope and healing.
