The third generation (2014–2018) Mazda 3 saw the most significant changes since the induction of the model. Previously being built on a Ford platform, Mazda moved to the Mazda 3 being built on the KE CX-5 platform, and with this came the choice of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol (Neo, Maxx and Touring), 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol (SP25, SP25 GT and Astina), and a 2.2-litre diesel that was axed from the line-up in 2016.
