“We’ve Lost India, Russia To Deepest, Darkest China”: Donald Trump’s Latest Remark

Former US President Donald Trump has sparked fresh controversy with his latest social media post, declaring that the United States has “lost” both India and Russia to China.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!”

His comments came after Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. The meeting highlighted growing cooperation among the three powers in energy, security, and global trade—often in direct opposition to Washington’s policies.

For decades, the US has invested in cultivating India as a counterweight to China, with both Republican and Democratic administrations emphasizing strategic partnership with New Delhi. Trump himself had famously joined Modi at the “Howdy Modi” rally in Houston (2019) and revived the Quad alliance with Japan and Australia.

However, tensions have risen over trade and energy policies. Trump recently imposed steep 50% tariffs on Indian goods, targeting its Russian oil imports. He has also accused India of “financing” Moscow’s war in Ukraine through its energy deals.

Meanwhile, India has maintained that its strategic autonomy remains paramount—balancing ties with the US, Russia, and China based on its national interests. Modi’s meeting with Xi and Putin marks a significant geopolitical moment, especially given the ongoing tensions along the India-China border.

Analysts say Trump’s remarks reflect a growing shift in global alignments and highlight Washington’s diminishing leverage over some of its once-closest partners.
