Malan Bai, a resident of one of the affected villages, highlighted the dire circumstances, stating that basic tasks like bathing and washing clothes have become arduous. “Tankers arrive at a 15-day interval. We bathe by collecting water in utensils placed under the cots, and we wash clothes with the leftover water,” she lamented. Additionally, obtaining drinking water has become a financial burden, with villagers paying ₹20 per day for access to clean water.
The severity of the water crisis has prompted concerns from political figures like Congress’ Jairam Ramesh. Ramesh pointed out the escalating situation, emphasizing the failure of past promises by political leaders to address the issue effectively. He questioned the lack of action from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP in tackling the worsening water scarcity in Solapur and neighboring areas.
With the parliamentary elections approaching in Solapur constituency, the issue of water scarcity has become a focal point of discussion. However, locals remain skeptical about the prospects of tangible solutions being implemented to alleviate their plight.
