Virat Kohli Reclaims No.1 Spot in ICC ODI Batting Rankings After Four Years

Virat Kohli has once again risen to the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, ending a four-year wait and reaffirming his status as one of the greatest batters in the history of the format.

Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli has returned to the No.1 position in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings for the first time since 2021, following a match-winning knock of 93 off 91 balls against New Zealand in Vadodara on Sunday. With this rise, Kohli overtakes teammate and captain Rohit Sharma at the summit.

This achievement marks the 11th time Kohli has topped the ODI batting charts, highlighting his remarkable longevity and consistency. His resurgence has been powered by a string of impressive performances, including scores of 135, 102 and 65* against South Africa, along with a composed 74* versus Australia.

Kohli first claimed the No.1 ranking in October 2013 and has now spent a total of 825 days at the top — the most by any Indian batter. On the all-time list, he stands 10th overall, with Sir Vivian Richards leading with 2,306 days.

Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has also climbed the rankings after a strong innings of 84, overtaking Rohit Sharma and tightening the competition at the top. Just 10 ranking points now separate Kohli, Mitchell, and Rohit, setting up an intense battle for supremacy.

Other notable movements in the ODI rankings include K.L. Rahul rising to 11th, Devon Conway jumping three places to 29th, and Mohammad Siraj climbing to 15th among bowlers. New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson made a significant leap, surging 27 spots to 69th.

In the Test rankings, Australia’s Travis Head and Steve Smith moved up to third and fourth respectively after their centuries helped Australia seal a 4–1 Ashes series win. England’s Joe Root retained his No.1 Test batting position, while Mitchell Starc enjoyed a major boost after claiming 31 wickets, climbing to third in the Test bowling rankings.

The T20I rankings also saw movement, with Wanindu Hasaranga jumping to second after a strong showing against Pakistan. Several Pakistani players, including Sahibzada Farhan, Salman Agha, and Salman Mirza, recorded notable gains across batting and bowling charts.
