Unveiling the Story of Dinakshie Priyasad: From Childhood to Fame

Dinakshie Priyasad, born on 18 March 1990, is a prominent Sri Lankan actress and television presenter. Renowned for her captivating performances and vibrant presence on screen, Priyasad’s journey in the entertainment industry began at an exceptionally young age.

Early Life

Dinakshie was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to parents Dinesh Priyasad and Shirani Priyasad. She is the eldest of three daughters, with her sisters Sheshadri and Shanudrie Priyasad also making their mark in Sri Lankan cinema and television. The Priyasad family is known for their devout Catholic faith, which plays a significant role in their lives.

Her father, Dinesh Priyasad, is a pioneering film director in Sri Lanka, credited with introducing various technological advancements and graphic innovations to the local film industry. One of his most acclaimed works is the 1995 action film Demodara Palama, starring the legendary Gamini Fonseka. Shirani, Dinakshie’s mother, has produced several films directed by Dinesh, showcasing the family’s deep-rooted involvement in the cinematic arts.

Dinakshie completed her initial education at Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, before moving on to Royal Institute International School for her pre-university studies in the Maths Stream. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering at the Open University of Sri Lanka, alongside a diploma in Media and Mass Communication at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Career

Priyasad’s debut in the entertainment world was remarkably early; she appeared in her father’s film Apaye Thathpara 84,000 at just two years old. However, her first significant acting role came much later, in 2009, with the teledrama adaptation of Upul Shantha Sannasgala’s romantic novel Wassana Sihinaya. Directed by Janaka Siriwardana and scripted by Kavindya Jayasekara, this project marked the beginning of Dinakshie’s successful career in television dramas.

In the same year, she starred in Sanda Giri Pawwa, portraying a challenging role of a teacher from a rural, impoverished background. This role tested her acting skills, as she had to convey the emotional depth and resilience of her character. The filming conditions in the remote areas of Kurunegala District added to the complexity of the production.

Following this, Dinakshie took on the role of Nimmi in the teledrama Hithata Wahal Weemi, based on Sarath Kaviratne’s popular story from the seventies’ Siththara weekly. Directed by Mohan Niyaz, this role further solidified her status as a versatile actress.

In 2019, she was honored as the numero uno (No. 1) among the ‘Most Beautiful Actresses and Models’ in Sri Lanka by News4masses. This accolade is a testament to her charm and talent, highlighting her rise from a television presenter and teledrama artist to a celebrated figure in Sri Lankan entertainment.

Dinakshie has also starred in several music videos, including Tehan Perera’s Unuhuma, Prabudda Geetha Ruchi’s Yahamin duka kiyaganna, Doctor Band’s Aya Enathura, and Billy Fernando’s Ra Ahase. In 2021, she featured in the Raffealla Fernando Celebrity Calendar, showcasing her alongside other notable Sri Lankan celebrities.

Personal Life

Dinakshie Priyasad’s personal life has also garnered public interest. She began dating popular Sri Lankan actor Saranga Disasekara in 2018, and the couple tied the knot on 28 August 2020. Their union was blessed with the birth of their first child on 26 September 2021.

Dinakshie Priyasad continues to enchant audiences with her diverse roles and captivating screen presence, making her a beloved figure in Sri Lanka’s entertainment industry. Her journey from a child actor to a celebrated actress and presenter is a testament to her talent, dedication, and the rich cinematic heritage of her family.
