The UAE Council for Fatwa has confirmed that the Ramadan Crescent Moonsighting Committee will meet on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 6:00 pm at the historic Qasr Al Hosn in Abu Dhabi.
The session will be led by Sheikh Abdullah bin Sheikh Al Mahfouz bin Bayyah, Chairman of the Council for Fatwa, with Vice-Chairman Dr Omar Habtoor Al Darei in attendance.
The Council emphasized that the meeting is part of its ongoing mandate to observe and verify lunar months, reinforcing a unified national reference for moon sighting and a structured approach to declaring the beginning of each lunar month.
Deliberations will commence after the Maghrib prayer, reviewing field observation reports and findings from accredited observatories across the UAE. Committee members will also consider testimonies submitted by the public in accordance with approved religious and procedural guidelines.
Earlier, the Council urged residents to sight the crescent moon on Tuesday evening and submit their observations through the official online platform. The announcement highlighted the importance of reviving the prophetic tradition of moon sighting and encouraging active community involvement.
The official declaration of the start of Ramadan will be made through authorised channels once the committee completes its review and confirms the findings.
