In a generous gesture ahead of Eid Al Adha, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the exemption of over Dh139 million in debt owed by 222 Emirati citizens, aiming to uplift retirees and low-income families.
The Defaulted Debts Settlement Fund will forgive:
Dh86.47 million in debt for 132 retirees
Dh53.4 million for 90 citizens under social support categories
This compassionate move comes during the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah, a sacred time in the Islamic calendar marked by worship, generosity, and the Hajj pilgrimage.
Officials say the initiative reflects the leadership’s commitment to ensuring a dignified, stable quality of life for all citizens, while promoting family well-being and social development through reduced financial stress.
Just a day earlier, the President also ordered the release of 963 inmates and pledged to cover their financial penalties — a wave of pardons that has now spread across other Emirates as well.
