The UAE Olympic team kicked off their AFC U-23 Championship campaign in impressive fashion, securing a confident 2-0 victory over Qatar in their opening Group B fixture. The tournament, hosted in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, features 16 teams competing for continental honours and qualification pathways.
From the outset, the UAE demonstrated strong organization and attacking intent, taking control of the match early on. Their efforts were rewarded in the 20th minute when Ali Al Maamari found the back of the net with a composed finish, giving the team a well-deserved lead. Qatar struggled to regain momentum, and the UAE capitalized again before halftime. In the 38th minute, Junior Ndiaye doubled the advantage, converting a well-constructed play that left the Qatari defence unsettled.
With the two-goal cushion secured, the UAE maintained disciplined possession and defensive stability in the second half, successfully protecting their lead and limiting Qatar’s opportunities. The final whistle confirmed a strong opening result, earning the UAE their first three points of the tournament and positioning them well in the standings of Group B.
The victory not only boosts team morale but also sets a positive tone for the remaining group-stage matches as the UAE aims to advance deep into the championship.
