Turkish Airlines has announced a landmark investment of 100 billion Turkish liras (over USD 2.3 billion) to develop a new cargo terminal and an in-flight catering facility at Istanbul Airport. The project is set to deliver the world’s largest cargo terminal, incorporating advanced logistics technologies to enhance speed, reliability, and operational efficiency.
Currently transporting more than two million tonnes of cargo annually, the airline aims to support rising global freight demand through this major infrastructure expansion. The construction phase and subsequent operations are expected to create around 26,000 jobs across logistics, engineering, and airport services.
The investment forms part of the carrier’s long-term growth strategy, which targets expanding its fleet from 514 aircraft today to 813 by 2033. Chief Executive Bilal Eksi has stated that the airline’s ambition is to rank among the world’s top five airlines by that date.
This development further reinforces Istanbul Airport’s position as a leading global aviation and logistics hub.
