Trump Challenges Netanyahu’s Denial of Starvation in Gaza: “Those Children Look Very Hungry”

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has openly disagreed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that there is no starvation in Gaza.

Speaking on July 28 ahead of a bilateral meeting with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland, Trump commented, “Based on television, I would say not particularly, because those children look very hungry.” He added that while the U.S. has already provided $60 million in humanitarian aid, “other nations are now stepping up.”

Netanyahu, in a statement made the day before, insisted there is no starvation in Gaza, rejecting global criticism and describing such claims as a “bold-faced lie.” “There is no policy of starvation in Gaza and there is no starvation in Gaza,” he said.

However, the Gaza Health Ministry reported that at least 14 people had died within 24 hours from starvation and malnutrition, raising the hunger-related death toll to 147, including 89 children — most of these deaths occurring in recent weeks.

In response to international pressure, Israel announced a temporary daily pause in military operations for 10 hours in parts of Gaza on July 27, allowing humanitarian aid corridors. Jordan and the UAE also airdropped emergency food supplies into the territory.

Trump, addressing the ongoing crisis, revealed he had discussed the situation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who said European countries would increase their aid efforts.

Meanwhile, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the situation in Gaza a “humanitarian crisis” and an “absolute catastrophe”, expressing the British public’s horror over the images they are seeing.

Trump also criticized the Hamas militant group for not cooperating in the release of Israeli hostages, stating, “I told Bibi [Netanyahu] that you have to maybe do it a different way.”
