Trump Adds Insult-Filled Plaques to Presidential Portraits at the White House

Washington: Former US President Donald Trump has reportedly added controversial plaques to presidential portraits displayed in a White House hallway, drawing criticism for their openly insulting and misleading language toward past American leaders.

The plaques, placed beneath portraits as part of what Trump has described as a “Presidential Walk of Fame,” contain highly partisan commentary rather than neutral historical summaries. Critics say the descriptions are filled with personal attacks, exaggerations, and false claims, raising concerns about the politicisation of presidential history.

One plaque targeting President Joe Biden reportedly begins by calling him “Sleepy Joe Biden” and labels him “the worst President in American history.” It goes on to blame Biden for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel—claims widely rejected by historians and political analysts.

Former President Barack Obama is described on his plaque as “one of the most divisive presidents in American history,” with the Affordable Care Act mockingly renamed the “‘Unaffordable’ Care Act.” The plaque further blames Obama for his party’s loss of control of Congress.

Even Republican President George W. Bush is not spared. His plaque reportedly credits him for creating the Department of Homeland Security while simultaneously accusing him of starting wars in Afghanistan and Iraq that “should not have happened.”

In contrast, Ronald Reagan’s plaque is overwhelmingly positive, praising him for winning the Cold War and transforming American politics. It also claims Reagan was a supporter of Trump—an assertion disputed by historical records, including reports that Trump’s repeated attempts to engage the Reagan White House in the 1980s were ignored or rejected.

Observers argue that the plaques reflect Trump’s personal grievances rather than historical accuracy, turning a symbolic presidential display into a political statement. Critics warn that such actions risk undermining the integrity of public institutions meant to preserve balanced national history.
