In a tragic incident today, the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, resulting in the deaths of two passengers and leaving several others injured. The derailment occurred in Pikaura, between Gonda and Jhilahi. According to Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, four passengers have died.

The derailment involved five coaches of the AC compartment of train number 15904, heading from Chandigarh to Dibrugarh. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion just before the derailment. The loco pilot’s statement has led to a high-level probe ordered by the Central Government to investigate the cause of the incident.

Rescue operations were promptly initiated, with a 40-member medical team and 15 ambulances dispatched to the site. Visuals from the scene show passengers with their luggage standing beside the derailed coaches. Several trains on the route have been affected, with some being diverted to alternative paths.

One passenger described the terrifying experience, saying, “I had a close shave, glad to be safe. Don’t worry I am fine.” Videos from the accident site reveal the chaos, with one coach flipped on its side and passengers attempting to retrieve their belongings.

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has directed the district administration to expedite relief efforts and ensure the injured receive prompt medical attention. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is also monitoring the situation closely.

As the investigation continues, authorities stress the importance of passenger safety and vow to implement measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
