Top Five: Best (and worst) Christmas-themed car videos of 2023

[ad_1]

It’s the one time of the year we come together, eat a meal, and make fun of the latest Christmas videos from car companies.

Each year, families gather to exchange presents, share a meal, and fall asleep in front of a television rerun of Die Hard.

It’s also the time of the year when there isn’t much automotive news hitting the wires.

So, once again, for your benefit, Drive has compiled the top five Christmas-themed car videos for 2023 – in no particular order – which include both the best and the worst from across the globe.

Nissan – The traditional exchange of branded merchandise

It appears Nissan spent all of its Christmas video budget on flying in brand ambassadors from across the globe, which meant there was nothing left over to spend on the video’s production. The ambassadors show off the branded merchandise they’ve brought to give as gifts in some random foyer.

These include a computer mouse mat and lanyard from the UK, a thermos from Canada, and a baseball cap from Thailand. Perhaps Santa will have a Nissan-branded lump of coal for the creative team behind this one.

BMW – I’m dreaming of a Freudian Christmas

BMW’s Christmas film, named ‘Father & Son: Freude forever‘ actually translates from German as ‘joy forever’, and isn’t a reference to some child-parent theory from Sigmund Freud – despite the flipping of their roles in the film. We can confirm this is BMW’s Christmas film because there’s a Christmas tree making a cameo in the opening shot.

Chevrolet – Cars heal all

Once again, Chevrolet has come through with a real tear-jerker. Grab the Kleenex, as Nan’s Alzheimers was thankfully able to be cured with a ride in Gramp’s old Chevy Suburban and a singalong with an eight-track – just in time for Christmas dinner. Excuse me, I have something in my eye…

Toyota – Life through a lens

While Toyota’s attempt isn’t quite as heart-squeezingly emotional as Chevrolet’s, its Christmas film is a sweet tale of generations of women living their adventurous lives – all thanks to the capability of a Toyota pick-up. Finally, some product placement.

Girardo & Co – Classic cars and bad sweaters

It simply wouldn’t be Christmas without a release from British auction house Girardo & Co, producing what is by far the best holiday video of 2023.

The film features almost $US30 million ($AU44.6 million) worth of classic cars, including an Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport Series 4 by Zagato, a Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione II rally car, a Ferrari 400 Superamerica Aerodinamico, a Pagani Zonda C12 F, and a Ferrari 512 S.

Turn up the volume and enjoy.
