Timothée Chalamet Wins First Golden Globe as ‘Sinners’ Takes Cinematic Achievement Award

Timothée Chalamet won his first-ever Golden Globe on Sunday night at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, earning the award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his role in “Marty Supreme.”

The victory marked a milestone for the 30-year-old actor, who had previously gone winless across four Golden Globe nominations. Chalamet’s win has also fueled speculation about a possible first Academy Award, following his Screen Actors Guild Award win last year for “A Complete Unknown.” Fellow nominees, including Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney, rose to applaud his achievement.

Accepting the award, Chalamet reflected on perseverance and gratitude, saying the moment felt “that much sweeter” after years of leaving similar ceremonies empty-handed.

The night largely favored awards-season frontrunners. Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” collected three major awards, with Anderson winning Best Director and Best Screenplay, while Teyana Taylor earned Best Supporting Female Actor for her powerful performance. In her emotional speech, Taylor delivered a message celebrating confidence, representation, and resilience.

Ryan Coogler’s vampire horror film “Sinners” secured two Golden Globes, including Box Office and Cinematic Achievement and Best Original Score for Ludwig Göransson. The film’s win stood out, having surpassed several franchise blockbusters despite early skepticism. “Sinners” went on to gross $368 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing original film in 15 years.

“I just want to thank the audience for showing up,” Coogler said, calling the recognition deeply meaningful.

Veteran actor Stellan Skarsgård received a standing ovation after winning Best Supporting Actor for “Sentimental Value,” marking his first major Hollywood award at age 74. Meanwhile, Rose Byrne won Best Female Actor – Musical or Comedy for her performance in “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.”

The ceremony also made history by introducing its first-ever Best Podcast award, which went to Amy Poehler for “Good Hang.” Seth Rogen won Best Actor in a Comedy Series for “The Studio,” a satirical show that humorously mirrors Hollywood’s awards culture.

Hosted by Nikki Glaser for the second consecutive year, the event blended sharp political humor with glamour, reflecting an industry facing uncertainty amid shifting studio dynamics and global tensions.

Held at the Beverly Hilton in California, the Golden Globes aired live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+, once again proving their influence as an early indicator in the awards season race.
