The Department of Meteorology has forecast multiple spells of showers across several provinces today, including Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central regions, as well as Hambantota district.
In the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts, showers or thundershowers are expected after 2:00 p.m., with some areas receiving heavy rain of around 50 mm. Early morning mist is likely in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara.
Residents are advised to stay cautious as strong winds and lightning may accompany the thundershowers. Coastal and offshore areas from Pottuvil to Kankasanthurai via Batticaloa and Trincomalee may also see showers, which could extend to surrounding seas in the evening or night.
Northeasterly winds will blow at 25–35 km/h, with stronger gusts of 45–50 km/h expected in sea areas from Kalutara to Mannar via Colombo and Puttalam, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. The seas may become fairly rough, with temporary strong winds and very rough conditions possible during thundershowers.
