There’s an app for that: Reports spike in neighbours dobbing in dodgy parking

[ad_1]

Perth residents have had enough, and are taking matters into their own hands to solve their illegal parking problem.

Eagle-eyed residents are using a phone app to dob in their neighbours’ bad parking – with around 6000 reports in just one city so far this year.

Fed up with seeing dodgy parking jobs in their area, residents of Tapping in Perth’s north have started dobbing in their neighbours using the Snap, Send, Solve app.

The ‘Snap Send and Solve’ app, which is available across Australia and New Zealand, allows users to report a range of complaints to authorities in their local area, including everything from potholes, graffiti, and overgrown vegetation, to flytipping, and – as in this case – illegal parking.

Using the app, residents can snap incriminating photos of illegally parked cars and send them straight to the relevant council, which can in turn rule on whether to issue a fine to the owner of the offending vehicle to ‘solve’ the problem.

‘Solvers’ can be anything from local councils and power companies to water authorities and road management bodies.

According to lifestyle website Kidspot, there have been around 6000 reports of illegal parking in Perth using the Snap Send and Solve app this year – a 61 per cent increase compared to 2023.

Perth local Kevin West told 9News that one of the worst problems in his area is that people park their cars on footpaths.

”You’ve got to walk around. You’ve either got to squeeze past on the left-hand side of the vehicle or, alternatively, you’ve physically got to go into the traffic,” he said.

“Just do the right thing,” he urged.
