Where is The Block 2024?

The Block will be held on Phillip Island in regional Victoria with contestants making over a former holiday resort into luxury family homes at 113-119 Justice Road, Cowes.

The Block purchased Island Villa Coves on Phillip Island in September 2023 for $8,758,000. The original reported asking price was $9.5 million.

The original property comprised of eight villas, including six two-bedroom villas and two three-bedroom homes.

There was also a double-storey home near the front of the property, with five bedrooms and three living areas, however according to social media reports, the second storey has been removed as part of the preparation works before the contestants arrive on site.

Cowes has a median house price of $780,000 (February 2023 – January 2024) and is approximately 2 hours from Melbourne.

This is The Block’s second time in regional Victoria. The Block’s 2022 season was in Gisborne South in Macedon Ranges.

Was The Block meant to be in Daylesford?

The 2024 season of The Block was originally slated to be in Daylesford before moving to Phillip Island after locals complained and planned to take the proposed development to VCAT (Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal).

Who are the contestants on The Block 2024?

The contestants for The Block are yet to be announced however the cast for The Block is usually made up of five teams of two, with a maximum of one team per state.

Fans are already on the lookout for hints as to who the contestants might be, with local Phillip Island Facebook groups being trawled for clues, with anyone requesting trades an immediate suspect.

Local sleuths think that Paige and Jesse might be this year’s Perth contestants after they posted on a Facebook group seeking a builder willing to do long days for three months with good connections to other trades in the area.

Contestants are due to arrive on site on Friday 1 March.

The casting application for The Block 2024 backs up this information stating contestants should be available for 12 weeks from late February.

Who are the judges this season?

Last year The Block had a shake-up with a new judge joining the team for the first time in years.

Marty Fox from WHITEFOX Real Estate joined Shaynna BlazeNeale Whitaker and Darren Palmer as a host in 2023, and Homes to Love has reported that all four judges will return in 2024.

When does the next season of The Block air on TV?

The date for the premiere of The Block 2024 has not yet been announced however the show traditionally starts in early August.

The premiere is usually on the first weekend however with the Olympics concluding August 11 it will be interesting to see if this impacts the schedule.

Last year the premiere aired during the Women’s Soccer World Cup and the 2023 Block auctions were held over the Melbourne Cup long weekend, so it’s yet to be seen if the Olympics will impact the premiere date.

How can you get on The Block 2024?

Applications for The Block 2024 closed in late October and shortlisted applicants were contacted by late January.

Budding Blockheads were advised to leave plenty of time to complete the application, which included a questionnaire and specific photo and video requirements.

Competition is fierce with tens of thousands of teams applying each year. In 2022, Scott Cam confirmed that approximately 45,000 people applied for The Block Tree Change.

The Block contestants are paid a nominal weekly fee during filming to cover basic living expenses however that’s not the only way contestants can make money.

Once the houses are sold, the contestants profit any money above the reserve price. The team that has the greatest profit above the reserve price also gets a $100,000 bonus prize.

Last year Kirsty and Brett took home the lowest amount of only $65,000 while Steph and Gian pocketed a record-breaking $1.75m which included their $100,000 winners’ bonus.

Has anyone not won any money on The Block?

It is possible to not make any money on The Block. If a house fails to sell at auction, contestants can still make money as long as the house sells above its reserve.

If it fails to sell above the reserve then the team won’t make any money.

This happened to Dylan and Jenny from The Block Treechange in 2022. Their house at 225 Mcgeorge Road, Gisborne sold privately for $3.0m in December 2022 despite a reserve price of $4.08m.

Leah and Ash’s house from The Block 2023 finally sold in February 2024, almost 5 months after it was passed in at auction, netting the couple $155,000.
