Taiwan Film Festival 2024 Opens in Australia, Showcasing Cultural and Cinematic Talent

🎬 The 8th Taiwan Film Festival in Australia officially kicked off on July 24 at Event Cinemas George Street in Sydney, drawing attention to Taiwan’s vibrant and evolving film industry.

The opening night featured the 2024 film “Daughter’s Daughter,” which captivated an audience of nearly 400. The event was graced by notable figures such as Stuart Buchanan, Head of Screen at the Sydney Opera House, and Benson Wu, CEO of Queer Screen, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture (MOC).

This year’s festival brings several firsts:
📍 For the first time, the festival will tour Perth in Western Australia.
🌍 It also features the international premiere of the 2024 documentary “Dancing Home”, spotlighting the artistic journey of Paiwan Indigenous choreographer Bulareyaung Pagarlava.

Audiences were also treated to a special appearance by Chen Yan-hong, director of “Repulsion,” who spoke before the screening. Chen, a 2024 Golden Harvest Award recipient, is known for his powerful portrayals of human emotions and daily life.

Backed by the Spotlight Taiwan project, the festival will continue until September 6, traveling to Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide — promoting cross-cultural dialogue through cinema.
