T20 World Cup 2026: Security Measures Tightened

Sri Lanka Police have confirmed that 1,500 regular officers and 600 traffic police personnel will be assigned to maintain safety and security for spectators at the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. The deployment aims to protect both local fans and international visitors attending the tournament.

Authorities have also issued guidelines for attendees. Spectators will not be allowed to bring large bags, glass containers, drones, sharp objects, drugs, or alcoholic beverages into stadiums.

In addition to uniformed officers, plainclothes personnel and intelligence staff will be present at venues to monitor the crowd and ensure public safety.

The T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka is scheduled to run from February 7 to March 8, 2026. Matches will be hosted at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Maligawatte and the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Stadium in Kurunduwatte, with Colombo serving as the main hub for the tournament.
