A room that has been advertised for rent on Facebook for $185 per week has highlighted the impact of the current rental crisis.
A post popped up on FB advertising for “1 boy to live in living room” of a property located in Mascot, in Sydney’s south.
A photo of the “room” shows a single mattress laid out on a tile floor with panel dividers, or Japanese folding doors surrounding it – playing the part of walls – with next to no space and zero storage.
A second photo in the post shows the bathroom the tenant will have access to, which appears much bigger than the area they would be sleeping in.
It’s not all bad though as the post does go on to say electricity, gas, Wi-Fi, water and dishwashing liquid are all included and there appears to be a power point in the “room”.
The space is also available immediately, so that’s a bonus, and with the rental market the way it is it will likely be snapped up pretty quickly.
Mind you, it isn’t the only tiny space to be put up for rent in Sydney of late, with a studio apartment – that doesn’t actually appear that much bigger – recently being listed at $235 a week in Newcastle that came with a microwave… above the bed.
Vacancy rates have dropped to 1.7 per cent in recent months in Sydney, with the average rental price $750 a week, $170 more than the Australia-wide average.
