Sydney Gears Up for a Grand Tribute to Clarence Wijewardena on His 82nd Birth Anniversary

A heartfelt cinematic tribute is set to light up Sydney as fans and music lovers celebrate the life of Sri Lankan musical pioneer Clarence Wijewardena. On August 3rd at 6:15 PM, the acclaimed biographical film Clarence – Rhythm of the Guitar will be screened in the state-of-the-art VMAX auditorium at Event Cinemas Castle Hill.

This special screening coincides with Clarence’s 82nd birth anniversary and promises an immersive movie experience, featuring a giant screen, Dolby Atmos sound, and luxurious seating—perfect for honouring a legend.

The event will also welcome a special guest: Mr. Tusitha Wijayasena, the film’s producer, visionary entrepreneur, and founder of Kandy City Centre.

Directed by Theja Iddamalgoda, the film paints an emotional and vibrant portrait of Clarence Wijewardena—the trailblazer who transformed the face of Sri Lankan music with his genre-defining compositions and unique style. Actor Damith Wijayathunga takes on the role of Clarence, joined by a talented cast including Nihari Perera, Saranga Disasekara, and Dinakshie Priyasad. The film features music direction by Suresh Maliyadda and cinematography by Ruwan Costa.

Following its premiere in Sri Lanka on June 27 to sold-out audiences and widespread critical acclaim, the film is now embarking on a global tour, with Sydney proudly hosting one of its first international screenings.

Presented by Art Movies in association with Lanka Events, this is not just a film screening—it’s a powerful celebration of music, memory, and a man who changed it all.
