Surfing legend Mick Fanning announces daughter’s birth

[ad_1]

Surfing legend Mick Fanning and his fiancee Breanna Randall have announced the birth of their daughter on social media, days after farewelling his last surviving brother.

Fanning shared an adorable snap of his six-day-old daughter Lyla Skye Fanning to Instagram on Tuesday after she was born late last week.

Wellwishers from around the globe congratulated the three-time surfing champion and his family.

The Wiggles wrote, “This is amazing! Welcome to the world.”

Fellow Australian surfing champion Stephanie Gilmore passed on her congratulations to the happy couple, as did big wave surfers Flick Palmateer and Coco Nogales.

Photographer Ryan Miller said, “Keep em coming. The world needs more humans like you.”

“Congratulations you two how exciting, welcome to the world,” filmmaker Devin Cooper commented.

Surfing Australia and Rip Curl also took to Instagram to congratulate Fanning and Randall.

In 2020, the couple welcomed their first child Xander Dean in August 2020 weighing 3.31 kilograms.

“I’m extremely strong, healthy and calm all because of my beautiful Mama, Breeana is a full-on superhero,” Fanning wrote.

“Mama was so calm, relaxed and in the zone. Dada calls her his Zen Wonder Woman and is so in awe of how strong and amazing she is.

“Dada thought he could focus but he’s got nothing on Mama. She rules. Dada loves you beyond words.

“Can’t wait to meet all my family, friends and all my uncles and aunties around the world that gave us so much support.”

Fanning proposed to his girlfriend in February 2020, surprising Randall during a pregnancy photo shoot with their first child.

Fanning said it “was one of those incredible days.”

“Breanna and I went to shoot some baby announcement photos and then this happened,” he said.

“This beautiful woman has stolen my heart and I’m so excited to create a beautiful family with her.

“So excited to start this new chapter with a person I truly admire and love. Breanna and Harper and new little one this is going to be magical.”

The announcement of their daughter came just days after Mick farewelled his older brother Ed Fanning on Saturday, who died in Madagascar in March, aged 48.

Ed had been living and working on the island nation at a surfing tour camp off the southeast African coast when he received a severe infection from a cut which caused his death.

In a tribute shared to social media, Fanning reflected on an emotional memorial service held on Saturday morning.

“I want to thank my family and friends for all the amazing support they have shown not only me but everyone that loved Ed,” he shared on Instagram.

“It was a beautiful day with so many amazing people coming together.

“I know Ed is always with me. The memories and good times we shared for so many years will always be with me. I give thanks for that.

“Some incredible stories were told today as people telling their versions of the funny and wild s —t he used to do.

“Please keep telling them as Ed would want you all to laugh.”

Mick said it was Ed who inspired him and his fellow brothers to surf, as reported by The Courier Mail.

“Ed was so passionate about surfing that us brothers could only follow him to the beach and see for ourselves,” he said.

“It was truly something life-changing, getting that first taste of the ocean in Coffs Harbour (where the Fanning brothers started surfing).”
