Sri Lanka is preparing to enter a new era of digital connectivity as Starlink, the satellite internet venture by tech billionaire Elon Musk, is set to begin commercial operations later this month.
According to Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne, trial operations are already underway across the island. “We will be able to start commercial operations this month,” he confirmed to Daily Mirror, highlighting that all necessary groundwork has been completed for the rollout.
Starlink’s arrival is expected to be a game changer, especially for remote and rural areas, offering high-speed satellite internet where traditional infrastructure has been limited or unavailable.
This development marks a major step forward in Sri Lanka’s digital transformation, supporting greater accessibility, economic growth, and tech inclusivity.
