The Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) has entered a new chapter in its rich cricketing history with the official commissioning of floodlights, enabling matches to be played under lights at the iconic Colombo venue for the first time.
The inauguration ceremony marked a significant milestone for Sri Lankan cricket, as SSC joins the list of grounds capable of hosting day-night fixtures. Officials said the new lighting system meets international standards and will enhance playing conditions while improving the spectator experience.
With the installation now complete, SSC is expected to host a wider range of domestic and international fixtures, including evening matches that attract larger crowds and television audiences. The development is also seen as a boost for player preparation, allowing cricketers to gain greater exposure to night-time playing conditions.
Cricket administrators and club officials hailed the project as a major step forward, noting that the upgrade reflects SSC’s continued commitment to modernising facilities and supporting the growth of the game in Sri Lanka.
