SriLankan Airlines flights disrupted as aircraft grounded

[ad_1]

ECONOMYNEXT – SriLankan Airlines said it had to cancel several flights over the Christmas season after a tyre burst in Paris and part delays on other aircraft.

Two A330 aircraft were grounded for several days with one requiring an extended check and another awaiting a spare part, which had to be manufactured “due to a global supply shortage’ as well as the tyre burst in Paris.

Engines for two Airbus NEO aircraft model, which had been grounded worldwide, was also awaited.

“SriLankan Airlines would like to apologise to those customers who have had their travel disrupted by a number of cancellations and delays over the past few days,” the airline said in a statement.

“This severely depleted the available fleet at very short notice leaving us with no option but to cancel some flights and delay others.”

Sri Lanka had taken delivery of an A320 this week and two grounded aircraft will come back to service next week with engines.

Sri Lankan had also wet-leased an A330 from Air Belgium, which is due by this weekend.
