Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara, revealed that the country earned a total of USD 487.6 million from foreign remittances in January alone. This significant boost underscores the continued reliance on remittances as a crucial source of foreign income for Sri Lanka’s economy.
Data compiled by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka indicates that between January and December 2023, the country received a total of USD 5,969.6 million in workers’ remittances, emphasizing the sustained contribution of overseas workers to the nation’s economic growth.
