Sri Lankan-Australian Sisters Set to Shine at Asian Colombo Rugby Sevens 2025

The excitement is building as the Asian Rugby Sevens 2025 returns to Colombo for its second leg, featuring thrilling clashes in both the men’s and women’s divisions. The tournament begins today at the Race Course Ground, bringing together top teams from Japan, China, Hong Kong China, Thailand, Kazakhstan, India, UAE, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

All eyes will be on the Sri Lanka women’s squad, where two sisters from Australia are set to make a remarkable debut. They are the daughters of former S. Thomas’ College fly-half Gimantha Jayasinghe, who now resides in Australia. Their participation adds an exciting cross-continental connection and fresh energy to Sri Lanka’s team.

The Sri Lanka men’s squad features a strong lineup including Gayan Perera, Kavindu Perera, Kalana Chamuditha, Akash Madushanka, Dinal Ekanayake, Yehan Bulathsinhalage, Heshan Jansen, Diluksha Dange, Janindu Dilshan, Chathura Soysa, Srinath Sooriyabandara, Suranga Tennakoon, Dhashana Dabare, Mohamed Rifan, and Chemod Fernando.

The Sri Lanka women’s team consists of Randika Kumudumali, Sanju Wijetilleke, Shanika Madumali, Jayanthi Kumari, Sarani Nayanathara, Sandika Hemakumari, Dilki Sathsarani, Dilini Kanchana, Charani Thekshana, Kanchana Mahendran, LG Jayasinghe (Sri Lanka–Australia), NM Jayasinghe (Sri Lanka–Australia), Hekasini Krishnakumar, Gayani, Randunu, and Nipuni Rasanjali.

As the tournament unfolds, the spotlight is expected to shine brightly on the Jayasinghe sisters, whose combination of skill and international experience could be key to Sri Lanka’s performance. Rugby fans across the island are eager to see how these young talents blend with the local players to take Sri Lanka to new heights in the Asian Sevens series.
