Sri Lanka’s Under-19 side delivered a commanding performance to claim a comprehensive 203-run win over Japan in their U19 World Cup preliminary fixture.
After being sent in to bat, Sri Lanka made full use of the opportunity by piling up an imposing 387/4 in 50 overs. The opening pair set the tone with an extraordinary stand, as Viran Chamuditha blasted a superb 192, while Dimantha Mahavithana added an impressive 115 to place Sri Lanka firmly in control.
Chasing an almost unreachable target of 388, Japan struggled to keep pace and concluded their innings at 184/8 from their full quota of overs. The highlight for Japan came from Hugo Kelly, who stood tall amid the collapse with a resilient unbeaten century, finishing on 101*.
The emphatic win propels Sri Lanka to the top of Group A, strengthening their position early in the tournament.
