Sri Lanka’s Under-23 football squad has left for Kyrgyzstan to take part in the AFC U23 Asian Qualifiers 2025 to be played from September 3 to 6 in Kyrgyzstan.
The 23-member squad and coaching staff completed their final preparations in Qatar, where they played two testing international friendlies. Sri Lanka made history with a 1-1 draw against Qatar at the Lusail Stadium, before going down 0-3 to Syria at the Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium.
Head coach and players believe the tough matches were valuable lessons ahead of the qualifiers. The team will now face a demanding schedule in Group D of the competition.
Sri Lanka will open their campaign against Uzbekistan on September 3, followed by Palestine on September 6, and will conclude the group stage against hosts Kyrgyzstan on September 9.
