ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s CEAT Kelani Holdings, a tyre manufacturer said it had installed a 2.4 Mega Watt rooftop solar plant investing 475.97 million rupees, which will provide 21 percent of the factory’s electricity needs.
The 295,200 square foot solar power plant was commissioned in December 2023 and will also reduce CEAT’s electricity bill, which currently accounts for about 13 per cent of the company’s cost of production, the firm said.
“As the manufacturer of nearly half of Sri Lanka’s requirements of pneumatic tyres, CEAT Kelani is a systemically-important contributor to the national economy,” Managing Director Ravi Dadlani said in a statement.
“This investment in renewable energy is just one example of our focus on sustainability.”
The solar power plant was installed by Regen Renewables (Pvt) Ltd.
Regen Renewables represents SUNTECH, one of the world’s largest -1 Solar panel manufacturers and inverter manufacturer Siemens-KACO in Sri Lanka, and has commissioned more than 20MW of plants or about 10 percent of rooftop systems in the country, the statement said. (Colombo/Jan04/2024)
