Sri Lanka Receives Independence Day Greetings from the US

The United States extended its congratulations to Sri Lanka on the occasion of the country’s 78th National Independence Day, highlighting the strong and growing ties between the two nations. In a message from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the relationship was described as grounded in “mutual respect and a commitment to a free, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.”

The statement also noted the collaborative efforts between the countries, including joint support during the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, and expressed pride in the humanitarian assistance provided by the U.S. to aid recovery. Looking ahead, the message reaffirmed plans for continued cooperation in areas such as trade, economic development, and regional stability.

Sri Lanka’s Independence Day greetings were echoed by other global leaders as well, including King Charles III, who sent his felicitations to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the people of Sri Lanka. The 2026 celebrations in Colombo carried the theme “Let’s Build Sri Lanka”, reflecting a vision of progress and unity for the nation.
