Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya today reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s dedication to enhancing regional solar cooperation and advancing sustainable energy solutions during her address at the Seventh Meeting of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Regional Committee for Asia and the Pacific, held in Colombo.
The high-level meeting, themed “Advancing Solar Cooperation Across a Region of Diversity and Opportunity,” convened regional leaders and stakeholders to foster shared solar energy goals. Sri Lanka, currently serving as Vice-Chair of the Regional Committee, played a pivotal role in shaping the dialogue.
In her inaugural address, Prime Minister Amarasuriya emphasized the urgency of transitioning to clean energy, noting that solar development is central to Sri Lanka’s strategy for achieving regional energy security and environmental sustainability.
A highlight of the event was the formal presentation of the Sri Lanka–ISA Country Partnership Roadmap, which outlines a framework for strengthened collaboration and accelerated project implementation. The roadmap was officially handed over to Minister of Energy Kumara Jayakodi.
Minister Jayakodi also launched the government’s flagship clean energy initiative, “Battle for Solar Energy,” aimed at rapidly expanding rooftop solar installations nationwide and helping Sri Lanka reach its target of 70% renewable energy by 2030.
The conference further spotlighted the University of Moratuwa as a regional knowledge and innovation hub, entrusted with leading solar research and technological development.
