Sri Lanka Makes ETA Mandatory for All Tourists and Business Travelers Starting Tomorrow

The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced that starting tomorrow (October 15), all foreign nationals visiting Sri Lanka for tourism or business purposes will be required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before their arrival in the country.

Travelers can apply for the ETA through the official website — eta.gov.lk.

According to the department, while the ETA application is mandatory for all visitors, passport holders from Seychelles, the Maldives, Singapore, China, India, Russia, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Japan will be exempted from paying the processing fee. However, these travelers must still complete the ETA application process before entering Sri Lanka.

For citizens of all other countries, the standard ETA fee will apply.

The move aims to streamline immigration procedures, enhance border security, and make travel processing smoother for incoming tourists and business travelers.
