The action-packed calendar features six crucial matches in the third round of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, two FIFA-sanctioned international friendlies, and six matches in the prestigious South Asian Football Championship (SAFF). According to Jaswar Umar, President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL), if Sri Lanka advances to the semi-finals and finals of the SAFF Championship, the match tally could climb to an impressive 16 games.
The journey kicks off on March 25, 2025, with a historic clash against Thailand in the Asian Cup qualifiers, followed by showdowns with Turkmenistan and Chinese Taipei. This is the first time Sri Lanka has reached the third round of the Asian Cup qualifiers, a milestone that has captured the attention of fans and sports analysts across Asia.
In preparation, the national squad will play two friendly matches against Laos on March 20 and 22, providing vital match experience ahead of the competitive fixtures.
The 2025 SAFF Championship promises to be even more thrilling with a newly introduced format aimed at boosting regional football.
