In a stunning display of skill and determination, the Sri Lankan Under-12 Boys and Girls Tennis teams emerged victorious in the ATF Asia 12 & Under Team Competition South Asia Regional Qualifying Event held in Kathmandu, Nepal. The matches, held at the Nepal Tennis Complex Stadium in Lalitpur, showcased the talent and prowess of young Sri Lankan tennis players, securing wins against Nepal and Maldives.
The Sri Lankan Under-12 Boys’ team delivered an impressive performance, overpowering Maldives with a resounding 3-0 victory. Meanwhile, the Girls’ team exhibited exceptional prowess as they secured a flawless 3-0 clean sweep against Nepal in their first-round ties.
The boys’ team, comprising talented players such as Buvindu Jayawardhana from Maliyadeva College, Jathya Thalammehara from Ananda College, Revaan Amarasinghe of S. Thomas’ College, and Avin Dias from St. Joseph’s College, under the guidance of their coach Chehan Fernando, displayed remarkable synergy and skill on the court.
Similarly, the girls’ team, consisting of Sahansa Damsiluni of Visakha Vidyalaya, Sanuthi Liang Wong of St. Peter’s College Negombo, Risindi Hewawasam of Ave Maria College Negombo, and Kiara Jayamanne of St Bridget’s Convent, exhibited exceptional talent and teamwork under the coaching of Ganendran Subramaniam.
The tournament, featuring a total of seven teams, is structured with two groups, ‘A’ and ‘B’. Group ‘A’ comprises India, Bangladesh, and Maldives, while Group ‘B’ includes Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. The competition commenced on a high note, and it is set to continue until May 24th.
