Sri Lanka Clinches Top International Honour at Surajkund Crafts Fair

Sri Lankan batik artist Iresha Chinthani de Silva has earned international recognition by winning the “Best Foreign Award” at the 39th Surajkund International Crafts Fair, held in Haryana, India. She was selected from among participants representing 53 countries.

The exhibition, which ran from January 31 to February 15, brought together skilled artisans from around the globe, each showcasing their unique craftsmanship. Iresha Chinthani’s batik creations, reflecting the rich artistic heritage of Sri Lanka, were highly praised by international judges, leading to her receiving this prestigious accolade.

Upon returning to Sri Lanka on February 16, Iresha Chinthani de Silva and her team were warmly welcomed by officials from the National Crafts Council of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Industries of Sri Lanka in recognition of their achievement.

Experts say this award will help elevate the profile of Sri Lankan artisans on the global stage, while also bringing renewed attention and energy to the country’s batik industry.
