Antony, was a distinguished music teacher at St. Ignatius Loyola Boys High School. Her uncle, Late Mr. M.J. Michael, the founder of the Indian Youth Chamber Orchestra, also played a pivotal role in shaping her musical journey. Under their mentorship, Smitha began playing the violin at the tender age of seven, laying the foundation for her illustrious career.
Smitha’s bond with celebrated violinist Mr. Balabhaskar began in her childhood and became more significant when she won her first award in his name posthumously. Balabhaskar’s untimely death profoundly affected Smitha, inspiring her to create a poignant adaptation of “Lag Ja Gale,” a composition that earned her the Vismaya Balasandra Award in 2019.
