Growing up in a family of music enthusiasts, Smitha Antony’s early years were imbued with melodies and rhythms. Her father, the renowned Western classical violinist and music director, Late Mr. M.J. Antony, was a distinguished music teacher at St. Ignatius Loyola Boys High School. Her uncle, Late Mr. M.J. Michael, the founder of the Indian Youth Chamber Orchestra, also played a pivotal role in shaping her musical journey. Under their mentorship, Smitha began playing the violin at the tender age of seven, laying the foundation for her illustrious career.

Smitha’s bond with celebrated violinist Mr. Balabhaskar began in her childhood and became more significant when she won her first award in his name posthumously. Balabhaskar’s untimely death profoundly affected Smitha, inspiring her to create a poignant adaptation of “Lag Ja Gale,” a composition that earned her the Vismaya Balasandra Award in 2019. This award, established in memory of Balabhaskar Chandran, recognized her unique ability to blend Indian and Western musical traditions.

In 2000, Smitha relocated to Australia, where she continues to compose and perform, enriching Sydney’s cultural landscape. Her music, a reflection of her diverse experiences, resonates with a wide audience, bridging cultural divides.
