Sri Lanka has moved up to 93rd place in the Henley Passport Index 2026, granting its citizens visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 39 international destinations, according to the latest rankings released by Henley & Partners.
The Henley Passport Index is considered one of the most trusted global benchmarks for evaluating passport strength. It assesses countries based on the number of locations their passport holders can enter without securing a visa in advance. The rankings are created using exclusive data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), combined with detailed research conducted by Henley & Partners.
At the top of this year’s list is Singapore, which maintains its leading position with access to 192 destinations. Japan and South Korea hold the second spot, while Denmark, Luxembourg, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland share third place, each offering entry to 186 destinations without a prior visa.
Last year, Sri Lanka stood at 96th, with visa-free access to 44 countries. While the number of accessible destinations has changed, Sri Lanka still ranks ahead of several South Asian peers, including Nepal, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, within the SAARC region.
