Sindhudurg Airport, located in Maharashtra’s Konkan region, has received approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to operate round the clock, including during periods of poor visibility and challenging weather conditions, according to a statement from IRB Infrastructure Developers.
Managed by IRB Infrastructure, the airport began commercial services in October 2021 and has since played a growing role in regional connectivity.
Welcoming the development, Jai S. Sadana, Chief Adviser and Head of IRB Sindhudurg Airport, said the clearance for 24×7, all-weather operations would significantly strengthen the airport’s operational efficiency. He noted that the approval is expected to boost airline confidence, support long-term passenger growth, and contribute to economic activity and tourism across the Konkan belt.
As part of the clearance, the airport has been granted Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) certification, allowing aircraft to operate safely in low-visibility and adverse weather scenarios. The approval also covers the implementation of satellite-based Required Navigation Performance (RNP) procedures, along with a backup navigation system to ensure operational continuity.
Together, these advanced navigation and safety systems provide pilots with accurate instrument-based approach guidance and a dependable non-satellite alternative, enhancing landing safety and ensuring reliable, year-round flight operations for all categories of aircraft.
