Sharjah Launches New Family Court and Alimony Fund to Support Families

In a major step to strengthen legal and social support systems, Sharjah has approved the establishment of a new Family Court dedicated to handling family-related cases and enhancing family wellbeing. The move is part of broader efforts to improve legal services and ensure stability for families in the emirate.

The Judicial Inspection Department will develop new regulations aimed at reinforcing family structures, while a newly formed committee will manage funds on behalf of children and vulnerable individuals. This committee will also create a sound financial plan to protect and use these funds in the best interests of the beneficiaries, reporting regularly to the Council.

In a landmark decision, a special alimony support fund has also been introduced to offer urgent financial aid to women and children when the responsible party is unable to pay due to legal or financial issues. The fund will be reimbursed once the obligated party is able to pay.

The initiatives were announced during a meeting chaired by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Judicial Council. The reforms mark an important step in modernising the legal system and prioritising family welfare across the emirate.
