Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been handed a suspension by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after his bowling action was found to be illegal in independent testing at Loughborough University earlier this month, reports ESPNCricinfo.
The suspension, which officially commenced on 10 December, bars Shakib from bowling in any competitions organised by the ECB.
Shakib, who last represented Bangladesh in international cricket during the series against India in September-October, will need to undergo independent assessment and demonstrate that his elbow extension stays within the 15-degree limit specified by the regulations to have the ban lifted.
The left-arm spinner’s action was questioned by the umpires during his sole appearance for Surrey against Somerset in the County Championship from 9-12 September. Shakib bowled over 63 overs in that match and claimed nine wickets.
Although he was not no-balled at any point for throwing, on-field umpires Steve O’Shaughnessy and David Millns later deemed his bowling action suspect.
The all-rounder is currently in Sri Lanka, competing in the Lanka T10 for the Galle Marvels.
