Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, often hailed as the “King of Bollywood,” recently opened up about his transformation from the quintessential romantic hero to an action star, as well as his ambitions for Indian cinema on the global stage. With a career spanning over three decades and more than 65 films, Khan’s journey reflects the changing landscape of Indian cinema and his desire to push the boundaries of his craft.
In an exclusive interview, Khan shared insights into his recent successes with action-packed blockbusters like “Pathaan” and “Jawan,” both of which were among the highest-grossing Indian films of 2023. While Khan is often associated with iconic romantic roles, he revealed that he never saw himself as a “romantic hero.” Instead, his diverse filmography includes a wide range of genres, from intense thrillers to heartwarming dramas.
Khan’s recent shift towards action cinema, marked by the high-octane sequences in “Pathaan” and “Jawan,” was driven by his love for the genre. “I’ve always enjoyed action films, and the opportunity to work on these projects allowed me to explore something new,” Khan explained.
Despite his immense popularity, Khan has yet to venture into Hollywood. He emphasizes that any potential role must honor the respect and admiration he has earned from his fans in India and across the globe. Rather than pursuing Hollywood, Khan dreams of creating an Indian film that resonates worldwide, showcasing the richness of Indian storytelling.
Looking ahead, Khan is set to star in “King,” an action drama directed by Sujoy Ghosh, which he describes as a “cool, massy, action, emotional film” that he has long aspired to make.
