Sarith & Surith Jayawardena: Rising Stars in the Music World

Sarith and Surith Jayawardena, born on December 11, 2000, have carved a niche in the music industry with their exceptional talent. From winning national TV shows to performing at prestigious international festivals, their journey is a testament to their passion and dedication.

Sarith and Surith Jayawardena embarked on their musical journey with a remarkable victory on the national television show “Poddanta Puluwan.” This triumph marked the beginning of a flourishing career that has seen them perform across Sri Lanka and internationally, collaborating with prominent local bands and gracing stages at significant events such as the Vietnam ABU TV Song Festival and The Indian Philharmonic Festival. Their performance at the CHOGM summit is one of the many highlights of their illustrious career.

The twins have garnered numerous accolades in inter-school and national competitions. Their academic prowess in music is evident as they have successfully completed Grade 8 exams in both theory and practicals from the Trinity College of Music. Additionally, they hold an Audio Engineering Diploma, earned under the tutelage of Maestro Ranga Dassanayake at Music Oven. Balancing a demanding music career with academics, they excelled in school and are currently pursuing higher studies in Fashion Design and Interior Design.

In 2016, Sarith and Surith established their band, NEWS Music. Their dedication and passion for music have been evident since their early performances at pocket concerts and parties. That same year, they released their debut single, solidifying their presence in the local music scene. Their talent caught the attention of YFm, where they performed live at the Y Unplugged Studio. Their growing popularity led to an invitation to be part of the youth musical program “16+” on Sirasa TV.

Their collaboration with the National Television of Sri Lanka and the Brand CocaCola on the show “Coke Red,” directed by Mr. Ravindra Munasinghe, provided a platform to showcase their innovative music to a global audience.

The band NEWS comprises eight multi-talented individuals: Rashmika Chanith on keyboards, Vihara Hettiwatta on rhythm guitars, Venuk Pesara on acoustic guitars, Lehan Budvin on bass, Thilina on percussion, Sarith Jayawardena on lead guitars, Surith Jayawardena on drums, Nadee Senevirathne on vocals, and KVN The Rapper.

NEWS Adhimathra sessions have become a fan favorite, reviving the classic hits of Sri Lanka. These sessions have gained immense popularity, attracting a global fanbase. Through these performances, the band pays homage to legendary music directors, lyricists, and singers, celebrating Sri Lanka’s rich musical heritage.

“Minutes of Sarith Surith” is another engaging concept by NEWS. This vlog captures fun and interesting moments from the band’s concerts and tours. Fans eagerly anticipate each episode, which offers a glimpse into the band’s life and preserves memories of their gigs. NEWS plans to introduce more elements to “Minutes of Sarith Surith” to keep the content fresh and exciting.
