After completing his secondary education at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sagara participated in the Muthuhara Children’s Society Programme at the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, the national television network of Sri Lanka. Career in Media and Photography

Sagara’s professional journey began at the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, where he worked as a television program producer and director from 1993 to 2008. Specializing in multi-camera live broadcasts, he honed his skills in producing and directing live events.

In 2006, Sagara founded “Media Ambassadors,” a company that created video documentaries, commercials, and live event productions. His work took him to renowned venues like the Sydney Opera House and various studios in the UK, USA, Germany, and France. His productions were acclaimed for their technological sophistication and creative brilliance.

Launching a Photography Career

Sagara’s entry into photography was marked by a pivotal moment in 2003 when Channa Wijewardena, a famous dance choreographer, recognized his talent and gifted him a state-of-the-art camera. This gesture launched Sagara’s career in photography. He became the official photographer and technical director for the Channa-Upuli Performing Arts Foundation, touring globally and capturing stunning images of their performances.

In 2005, he was appointed as the official photographer for Sri Lankan Airlines and undertook numerous commercial shoots, further establishing his reputation. His portfolio expanded to include local and international events, concerts by artists like Yanni and Enrique Iglesias, theatrical productions such as “Mamma Mia” and “Sound of Music,” and significant events like the Papal visit of Pope Francis in 2015.

Sagara’s expertise is not confined to his professional work. He is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Moratuwa and the University of Colombo, where he teaches video production and photography. His contributions to education help shape the next generation of photographers and media professionals in Sri Lanka.

Political Coverage and Presidential Appointment

In 2019, Sagara was invited to cover the political campaign of Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Following Rajapaksa’s election as President, Sagara documented the swearing-in ceremony and other significant events. He was subsequently appointed the Chief Official Photographer for the President, a role that involves documenting the President’s official engagements and events.

Sagara’s work has earned him numerous awards, reflecting his impact on the field of photography and media. Some notable accolades include:
