Vishwanath Rajeendra Kodikara, affectionately known as Vishwa, was born on September 14, 1987. From an early age, his passion for acting was evident, influenced by his father, the esteemed Director/Producer Padmasiri Kodikara. Vishwa’s introduction to the cinematic world came at the tender age of four, when he debuted in the film “Nohadan Ladune” (1992), portraying the childhood character of Mr. Ranjan Ramanayaka under his father’s direction.
Childhood and Personal Life
Vishwa Kodikara’s early years were filled with both academic and extracurricular activities. He began his education at Godamunna Kanishta in Kandy, where he laid the foundation for his academic journey. In 1996, he moved to Dharmaraja College Kandy, one of the most prestigious schools in the region. During his time there, Vishwa became deeply involved in the Dharmaraja College Cadet Western Band. His leadership skills shone through as he ascended to the position of Band Sergeant in 2004, eventually becoming the National Cadet Core Company Sergeant Major (CSM) in 2005.
Vishwa’s personal life has been shaped significantly by his family’s involvement in the arts. Growing up in a household where cinema was a central theme, thanks to his father’s influence, Vishwa developed a profound appreciation for the industry. This environment nurtured his early interest in acting and laid the groundwork for his future career. Outside of his professional life, Vishwa enjoys various hobbies, including reading, photography, learning new things, traveling, and internet surfing. These interests reflect his multifaceted personality and his continuous quest for knowledge and self-improvement.
Career in Cinema
After completing his A/Ls in 2007, Vishwa returned to the silver screen with a notable role in “Sadadara Jothi,” portraying the young life of Mr. H.R. Jothipala. This film, directed by Roy De Silva and produced by his father, marked Vishwa’s re-entry into the industry and showcased his growing talent. In 2008, he further honed his acting skills by studying Drama & Theatre under the guidance of Mahendra Perera, a well-respected artist in Sri Lanka.
Vishwa’s breakthrough came when he was invited by acclaimed director Anuruddha Jayasinghe to play the lead role in “Bombs & Roses (Bomba saha Rosa).” His performance received critical acclaim and solidified his status as a rising star in the industry. In 2010, he continued to build on this success with a leading role in V. Shivadan’s film “Daruwane.”
His versatility as an actor was further demonstrated through his roles in popular teledramas such as “Kiyadenna Aadare Tharam,” “Neela Pabalu,” and “Bandana.” However, it was his portrayal of Hasareals in the teledrama “Pabalu” that truly propelled his career to new heights. This role, directed by Shantha Soyza and written by Mahesh Rathsara Maddumaarachchi, resonated deeply with Sri Lankan audiences and remains one of his most celebrated performances to date.
