Shashila Perera, a renowned Sri Lankan dancer based in Melbourne, stands as the visionary founder and lead instructor of Shashila Dance Theater. With an illustrious career spanning over two decades in the dance realm, she has graced stages across 22 countries, mesmerizing audiences globally. As a proud cultural emissary, she ardently shares her love for dance while preserving the rich tapestry of Sri Lankan culture through her performances and teachings.
Her journey commenced at Sri Jayawardanapura Girls’ School in Kotte, where she immersed herself in various dance styles, including Kandyan, ballet, and Indian dance. Furthering her education in Melbourne, she graduated from Dance Factory Richmond Australia, specializing in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, and Musical Theatre.
A distinguished professional associated with the “Channa Upuli Performing Arts Foundation,” Shashila has adorned prestigious platforms like the Sydney Opera House and Marlboro House in the UK. Her accolades include triumphing in the Sirasa Dancing Star Season 2 reality show and competing in international dance championships. Guided by the esteemed dance maestro Mr. Kevin Nugara, she has mastered Latin American styles such as Cha-cha, Jive, and Samba.
In 2010, Shashila founded the Shashila Dance Troupe, later establishing her own academy, Shashila Dance Theatre, in Battaramulla. Over the years, she has imparted her expertise to over 1000 students in various genres including Kandyan, Hip-hop, Latin American, ballet, and Indian dance.
Relocating to Melbourne in 2018, Shashila expanded her dance troupe and academy, captivating audiences at numerous events both Sri Lankan and international. As the lead instructor at Shashila Dance Theater, she enchants international students with her enchanting lessons in Sri Lankan Traditional Kandyan dance and Contemporary ballet. A multifaceted artist, she has ventured into singing, enthralling audiences with her music videos filmed in Melbourne.
